Our History

The Clockhouse Community Centre has been an active Community Centre in the Woolwich Riverside Ward for generations. In 1997 the centre devolved from direct Council management and has since been an independent Charitable Company governed by it's Trustees and represents  a wide and highly diverse range of local community groups.

The building built in the 1780s, was originally the old customs house within the Woolwich Docks, notable for its prominent clock, which is a still a well known local feature . This beautiful Grade II listed building has an outstanding river view.

New Charlton Community Association (Centre) has been a registered charity since 1976.
It exists to provide support to the local community by providing hall facilities for local groups to hold their meetings/activities/training/ educational purposes and office accommodation to third sector organisations.
Providing community services in Charlton, Woolwich and the Borough of Greenwich, the hall is hired out to a cross section of community groups as well as Centre run activities and is also available as a venue to hire for private functions.
